There Is No God and We're All Alone - An Introduction

You and I are 1/6,000,000,000 of the current humanity that remains alive on this spinning rock hurtling through space. Earth is one of over 100,000,000 planets in an ever expanding universe. And we, as humans, in only the last few million years have had to create a reason for our being here. I realized last night, my mind racing as my head hit the pillow, that we had to create a God, a benevolent (by Christian standards), all-knowing, all-seeing creator who offered us a plan and a purpose. Otherwise, what would have been the point of a life lived? What endgame would we be perpetuating ourselves to?

This seems so bleak. I realized I had nothing to live for. The other side of that coin? I have nothing to die for, either.

I came up with an analogy of the human experience that probably could have holes shot in it by anyone who tried hard enough. But I thought it was pretty fucking good for 6:30 in the morning. Humanity is a small child. Our early history is infancy. We wander through our house, exploring, finding new rooms, killing any other children we find in those rooms. Ok, well that one just popped in my head and seemed funny to me. Anyway, we spend our first two years learning about this house. We don't really notice the windows and the universe outside. But something clicks. An enlightenment, if you will. We see our yard. We see a tree. It's neat, but we don't really know how that figures into our lives quite yet. As we grow and look further out, we see other "houses". But at this stage, we don't have the capability to explore those houses. Hell, as a toddler, we will only really venture into our yard and over to that tree we saw. It's a new world to us, but still relatively close to our own house. We are also smart enough to realize that the houses we see are probably not the only houses there are. But we are self-centered enough to believe that life really only exists in our house. We are toddlers.

Well, that's all for today.
