If you let down one friend, say, who is moving from your ex-college town to the thriving metropolis in which you live, then an apology is appropriate, right? If you let down another friend only a few days later, say, who is at the hospital with his wife having their first child, maybe you should send up a gift or flowers or something. But when you let down a third friend, whom you have known for over a decade, have been intimate with, and who is supposed to be one of the closest people in your life, then you have a problem.
I hit the troika last week when I did exactly all of the above. Yes, I have a problem. I have become a huge flake. Or was I always naive of that trait in me until recently?
I don't have an expansive and well-written entry for this. It's just something that has been weighing on me for the past week. I guess I could borrow a page from any of the 12-step programs and be happy because I have, at least, recognized and admitted my problem. Yeah, I could do that.
