Revolutions (Alan McStravick, 2009)
Fearing fear
uncertain of the day
seeking comfort
in art
a bank account
our kids soccer practice
routine
Greed was the order of the day
transgressions behind our back
We were willfully ignorant
Complicit in our own downfall
Why should we stop the party
Not when we have yet to get ours
No noise complaints
unruly behavior unpunished
The liquor drunk
the house destroyed
They said you were on the guest list
welcomed you with platitudes
and misdirection
With smiles, sly
Out the door
Such audacity
As they hand you the broom
Lack of confidence
Lack of job
Ignorance provided bliss
and a hope we would never learn
the lessons being hammered home
Home was the oasis
the one place to escape
And now thats been ripped away
Nowhere to turn
nowhere to earn
nowhere to spend
even if you had it
Aboard our own Titanic
aboard but paid no fare
We pretended nothing's wrong
Playing as this ship goes down
The tree of liberty
must, from time to time,
be refreshed with the blood
of patriots and soccer moms
blue collars and white
each, for whom the dream was stripped
Discontent will only take us so far
A revolution is the way
Revolution of thought
revolution of policy
revolution of dissent
revolution of arms
